I know and I was just so proud of them yesterday! Really they are doing a great job fasting, they don’t whine and complain about being hot, thirsty and hungry anymore. But they are FIGHTING EACH OTHER LIKE CATS AND DOGS! I have tried explaining to them that fasting is not just refraining from eating and drinking, but it is also refraining from everything else that Allah has forbidden.
Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet said: “Fasting is not [abstaining] from eating and drinking only, but also from vain speech and foul language. If one of you is being cursed or annoyed, he should say: “I am fasting, I am fasting.” [Ibn Khuzaimah, Ibn Hibban, and al-Hakim; Sahih].
Abu Hurairah also reported that the Prophet (S) said: “Allah does not need the fast of one who does not abandon false speech or acting according to his false speech [Bukhari and others]]
He also reported the Prophet (S) as saying: “Whoever does not abandon falsehood in word and action, then Allah Mighty and Majestic has no need [i.e. will not accept] that he should leave his food and drink”.[Bukhari]
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet said: “Perhaps a fasting person will get nothing from his fast save hunger, and perhaps the one who stands to pray at night will get nothing from his standing except sleeplessness.” [an-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah and al-Hakim / Sahih al-Jami`]. In another Narration “It may be that a fasting person attains nothing but hunger and thirst from his fasting”. [Ibn Majah, Darimi, Ahmad and al-Baihaqee; Sahih]
The children are definitely a test for me everyday, but a really big test in Ramadan because how can I convey the above while screaming at them? I’ve also resulted to trying to lay a guilt trip on them, “Yall want mama to go to the hell fire? You know when you act like that it drives me crazy!”

BismiLlahi arRahmani arRahim.
As salamu aleikum wa rahmatuLlahi wa barakatuhu.
😉 Mashaa Allah!! “Sabr is half of faith” and I think every mother should have a lot of it. Sometimes is not easy, we think the patience has a limit…but the “iman” has not limit! Al hamduLillahi!

Yes, patience is a virtue and one I desparately need more of.
O Allah, make us from those who have patience upon hardships and those who are thankful upon Your blessings.
While typing this reply, Adam took a ball and hit me upside my head and laughed. Now they all think it’s funny and are taking turns abusing their poor mother. Adam, “Bwooong! Haha ha”
Yup, sabr is a beautiful thing!

Help! SubhanaAllah I could have written this post myself. Small gifts do work as an incentive to quell the fitnah. It gives them something to focus on as they make their way through a day of fasting alhamdullilah.

Must be the kiddy break-up round the Muslim World! Yesterday I was nearly yelling at my son to quit fasting because of his behavior–ultimately he decided he wanted to keep it up, but errrrr!!!
Have you been shot in the eye with a toy, but painful arrow yet? No? Oh. Then you cannot be as crazy as me.
I accuse my children of trying to push me towards the hell fire, but you don’t read as irrate as I sound, hmm. Astagfirallah. And then they are so cute again! Your kiddy iftar–masha Allah!

Brooke, you made me laugh until tears came out. I got you beat…I have a really clingy daughter and my nephew was the same way…could not just be near you but had to sit on you and jab their elbows in the most painful position they could find in your body. Now my husband…that’s who taught them how to pick on mommy by throwing stuff at her. It’s all his fault! He thinks it’s funny or cute or something and ‘I be’ dead serious.

Patience is the only remedy. When you want to scream and shout.Don’t, kids will be kids. let them work their energy off helps them be stronger in adulthood.
If you act patiently and smoothly it will rub off on them inshalllah. And before Iftar a suggestion is have everyone seated and read 5 minutes about the virtues of ramadhan and fasting inshallah. Dos and Don’t…drop by drop inshallah we can instill the beautiful seerah into us and the kids.

Salam,
Yeah kidz will always be kidz.
If children sit with their fingers on their lips then you gotta worry.
My dad says that to his house full of TEENS, so just imagine….
Oh yeah he won’t let us go crazy, but there has to be some pillow fights and clanking, you know.
Hah your kidz are babies compare to us…………….
Alhamdulillah I can see another HAPPY, NOISY home.
With love from sis Rayyan

Message from a non-Muslim — Keep the faith. After reading what you stated was in your scripture, I get the feeling that Allah is testing you and making you stronger. Like the phrase I repeat to myself during tough times — What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Many blessing to you and your family.
