“None of you truly believe until you want for your brother what you want for yourself.” (Reported in Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)

With that said, let’s paint a scenario shall we.

Riddle me this, you are married to the PERFECT man. He is everything you always wanted and more. Most of your friends complain about their marriages and husbands. You are having a hard time finding a husband for your daughter, because she has been raised with standards and truth be told, her father (your husband) is a rare breed. You fear that there are no ideal husbands, but your own.

You meet a sister. She is PERFECT. She’s single and chaste. You feel sorry for her, because unfortunately all the men who ask about her are nothing to write home about. She ants to be married and have a family, but it looks like this is something she can only dream of and she doesn’t envision it for herself. You find out (perhaps she told you) that she would rather share a good man than to have a bad one all to herself.

What do you do?

a. Immediately disassociate yourself from her. There is no way in hell you want someone like this around your husband. You know longer trust her.

b. Know in  your heart that she would make a good wife and that if there is any man alive today that would treat wives in a plural marriage fairly, it would be your husband. However, you can’t handle the thought of sharing your husband, so you make dua that Allah gives her something even better than what you have.

c. Tell your husband about the sister and ask him if he knows any good brothers (even though you know he doesn’t and he doesn’t like matchmaking because of bad past experiences).

d. Introduce your husband and the sister and let them know that it may be difficult, but you are willing to make some scarifices and  give polygyny your best shot.

e. Other. Explain.

“O you who believe! Take care of your own selves. If you follow the right guidance and enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong no hurt can come to you from those who are in error. The return of you all is to Allah, then He will inform you about (all) that which you used to do.” Qur’an 5:105

We ask Allah to make us of the righteous ones and give us companions that will take us away from His Wrath and lead us to His Pleasure and Paradise.
