A long time ago, (in revert years), a student of knowledge came to our small salafi community to give a class to the sisters. A question was asked about a certain non-salafi Islamic school that had some questionable personalities attached to its ashura. The brother instructed us to not allow our children to attend, rather to homeschool. I remember a friend saying, “well we’re going to have a whole bunch of dumb salafi kids running aroung.” At the time, I thought it was funny, but now 3 years later, it is sad to see she was right. Most of families are home schooling, but I call it under-schooling. Some are using curriculums, others are using random books, but they never fail to meet district standards at the bi-anual meetings with the county. Their kids have no thinking skills. They are pushed work=sheets all day, facts and figures and as long as they spit them back out, the parents are content. Often people call me ask for advise, but now, I just listen and say very little. Why, because really no one really wants to make the commitment to REAL homeschooling. Insha’Allah I am planning to sign on to the google-group and pass it on.
